Single Blanking Plate - Piano Black

A blank plate has a quiet job: it closes off a point that is no longer in use and leaves the wall looking finished. This one is single gang, moulded in polycarbonate with a deep piano black gloss and no screws showing on the face, so the front reads as a plain rectangle rather than a fitting. At 88mm square it takes the usual small plate footprint, and the unbroken surface keeps the eye moving past it. We like it in rooms where black switchgear is already in place and a bare opening would otherwise catch the light.

We reach for it when a room has been reorganised and a position is left doing nothing: a spare point beside a run of sockets, an old television point in a bedroom that is now a study, a switch position that no longer controls anything. It is for indoor rooms, and it is as much at home on a hallway or landing wall as in a sitting room or kitchen. It suits anyone working towards a consistent look across a room, where an odd gap or a mismatched cover would break the line of a wall.

Polycarbonate gives the piano black its even, glassy depth, and the plate is light in the hand and quiet on the wall. A gloss face shows fingerprints more readily than a matt one, so keep a dry microfibre cloth to hand and use a barely damp one for marks, with cream cleaners, polishes and solvents kept well away. It carries a ten year warranty. Set alongside black switches and sockets, it lets a wall read as a single finish rather than a patchwork of odds and ends.

What size is the plate?

It is a standard single plate size, 88mm high by 88mm wide, so it sits in line with other single gang plates on the same wall.

What is it made from?

Moulded polycarbonate with a piano black gloss finish. The weight is only 0.07kg, so it is a very light component.

Does it take a bulb or carry any electrical function?

No. It is a blank cover with no switch, socket or lamp of any kind, so nothing is included or needed.

Can it be used in a bathroom or outside?

It is rated IP20 and intended for indoor use only, so keep it to dry rooms rather than shower zones, utility areas prone to splashing or anywhere outdoors.

How should the gloss be cleaned?

Dust it with a dry microfibre cloth. For fingerprints, wipe with a cloth wrung out in plain water and dry immediately. Abrasive creams and solvent cleaners will dull the shine.

Is there a warranty?

It carries a ten year warranty.
