Single Blanking Plate - Navy Blue

Some spots on a wall are better closed off than left open, and this is the plate we use to do it. It is a single gang blank in navy blue, moulded in polycarbonate, with a screwless outer plate so the face stays clean and unbroken by screwheads. The square front measures 88mm across, in line with the standard single plate footprint, so it sits level with the other plates along the same run. There is nothing to switch and nothing to read: just a flat panel of colour where a point has been taken out of use.

We reach for a blank like this after a rewire or a kitchen refit, when a position is no longer wanted and a bare aperture would look unfinished. It does the same job in a hallway, a bedroom or a home office, where a spare point only gathers dust. Navy sits well with darker decorating: inky walls, panelled dados, deep tiles and brass ironmongery, and it reads as a deliberate choice rather than an afterthought in white. It is meant for indoor rooms, so keep it to living space rather than anywhere damp or exposed.

The moulding is polycarbonate, light and rigid, with the navy carried evenly across the visible face and a low sheen that hides fingermarks better than gloss would. Cleaning asks very little: a cloth barely damp with mild soapy water. Solvents, cream cleaners and scouring pads will dull the surface, so leave those for the sink. It carries a ten year warranty. We like it best on a wall painted a similarly deep shade, where it almost recedes to nothing; against a pale colour it becomes a small navy square, which suits a room where the switchgear is already doing something interesting. Nothing sits behind the face.
