Description

Rectangular shades are rarer than round ones, and this is a small one, sized to sit on a bedside lamp without crowding it. The outer face is white faux silk with a soft sheen, and the inside is finished in white laminate, so the light passing through stays clean rather than picking up a tint. Crisp corners and straight sides give it a tailored line that sits well on square-shouldered bases. We would reach for a golf ball lamp here, which suits the shallow depth and keeps the fabric clear.

It is a useful size for bedside tables, a narrow hall console, or a pair flanking a mirror where round shades would read as bulky. The proportions also work on smaller table lamps in a study or a spare room, where you want light for reading but not a broad pool of it. Keep to lamps of 40W or under, and an LED will run cooler and keep the white looking white over time. The fabric is a woven faux silk over a laminate backing, which gives the shade its body and keeps the corners sharp.
