Description

The Knightsbridge Seren is a recessed LED downlight with three switchable wattage settings (15W, 20W, 25W) and three colour temperatures (3000K warm white, 4000K neutral white, 5000K cool white), allowing output and light colour to be adjusted on-site during installation. The fitting houses an SMD LED array behind an opal polycarbonate diffuser and includes DALI2 control gear for integration with networked building management systems or simple room controls.

Designed for commercial applications including offices, retail spaces, hospitality and healthcare environments where lighting requirements vary between zones or change over time. The wattage and CCT switches sit inside the fitting body, so adjustments are made before final ceiling closure rather than needing access panels or remote controls. The 170mm cut-out and 100mm minimum void depth suit standard commercial ceiling grids and plasterboard constructions. Plug-and-play connectors simplify installation across multiple fittings on the same circuit.

The die-cast aluminium housing with white powder-coated finish provides thermal management for the LED array and carries an IP40 rating (IP20 from above), making the fitting suitable for dry internal environments. The 110° beam angle gives wide, even coverage without pronounced hot-spotting. At 25W and 5000K the fitting delivers 3,305 lumens at 168.56 lm/W efficacy, while the 15W setting at 3000K produces 1,675 lumens for lower-intensity applications. The fitting is compatible with Knightsbridge's EMKIT2 emergency conversion kit (sold separately) for maintained or non-maintained emergency lighting compliance.

How are the wattage and CCT settings changed?

Both the wattage (15W/20W/25W) and colour temperature (3000K/4000K/5000K) are adjusted using switches inside the fitting body. These are set during installation before the ceiling is closed, rather than being controlled remotely. Once set, the fitting operates at the selected wattage and CCT until manually changed by an electrician.

What is DALI2 and do I need it?

DALI2 is a digital lighting control protocol that allows the downlight to be integrated into networked building management systems for dimming, scheduling and zone control. If you are installing these into a commercial building with centralised lighting control, DALI2 compatibility is required. For standalone installations without building management systems, a non-DALI version may be more suitable.

What void depth is needed above the ceiling?

A minimum 100mm void depth is required above the ceiling surface to accommodate the fitting body and allow adequate thermal clearance. The recessed depth of the fitting itself is 69.5mm, with the additional clearance needed for heat dissipation and driver access.

Can this be used with emergency lighting?

Yes. The Seren is compatible with Knightsbridge's EMKIT2 emergency conversion kit (sold separately), which converts the downlight to maintained or non-maintained emergency operation for compliance with fire safety and emergency egress lighting regulations.
