Sedgehurst Large 3 Light Tiffany Pendant - Multicoloured

The Sedgehurst large three light pendant carries a 570mm shade of Tiffany-style leaded glass, wide enough to anchor a dining table or a kitchen island on its own. Multicoloured glass pieces are cut individually and joined with soldered seams over a metal frame, and the depth of the shade keeps the lamps well shielded from eye level. The drop adjusts between 490mm and 1440mm when the ceiling light is fitted, so it can hang low over a table or sit higher in a hall. Three E27 GLS bulbs of up to 60W each are needed and are supplied separately.

This is a pendant for rooms with a bit of height and a surface to hang over: a dining table, a kitchen island, a wide hallway or a stairwell where the pattern can be read from more than one floor. At 5.3kg it needs a sound ceiling fixing, ideally into a joist or onto a proper mounting plate. The traditional glass works in older houses and in plainer rooms that want warmth and colour rather than more brushed metal. It is an IP20 indoor fitting, so keep it away from bathrooms and unheated outbuildings.

It is wired as a Class 2 fitting, double insulated, so no earth connection is required at the ceiling rose, though we would still have an electrician hang it. Clean the glass with a dry soft cloth or a soft brush, and lift finger marks with a barely damp cloth, drying at once and keeping solvents, polishes and abrasive creams off the solder lines. Let bulbs cool before changing them. Fitted with warm filament style bulbs on a compatible dimmer, the light through the coloured glass drops to a low amber, which is how this style of shade looks best.
