Description
This light-up decoration sets Santa's grotto in miniature on a shelf or sideboard, with small LED lights glowing among the branches of its little Christmas tree. Santa sits at his desk in his red suit and white-trimmed hat, gold quill in hand, working down a long scroll, while a child in a red hat, white scarf and grey coat leans on the desk to watch, standing on a little crate. Beside the tree sit a white teddy bear and a red parcel tied with gold. The cottage has white walls, a brown shingled roof with a small side canopy, an arched window and a green wreath with a red bow above the desk. It is made of plastic and stands 17.5cm high, 19.5cm wide and 7.5cm deep.
At 7.5cm deep it fits neatly on a mantelpiece, a windowsill, a bookcase shelf or a hall table, and its open front lets the whole scene be seen from across the room. It is for dry rooms indoors, and because it runs on batteries it needs no plug socket nearby, so it can go wherever a corner wants some Christmas cheer, from a bedside table to the dining table on Christmas Eve. It makes a lovely Christmas gift, and a piece to bring out each December as the countdown begins.
The lights run on three LR44 button-cell batteries, which are included, so the scene is ready to light straight away. Fine painted detail picks out the gold beads on the tree's garland, the frosted trim of Santa's hat and the planks of the desk and base. Dust it with a soft dry cloth, keep it away from damp, and take the batteries out when you pack it away after Christmas. We like it at eye level with a few sprigs of greenery around it, where it becomes a little window into Christmas Eve.
