Sangamo Choice Plus Wireless Digital Room Thermostat - White

The Sangamo Choice Plus is a wireless digital room thermostat consisting of two units: a wall-mounted battery-powered thermostat with a large rotary dial and digital display, and a separate receiver unit that controls the boiler. The thermostat communicates with the receiver on 433MHz radio, covering up to 30m indoors or 80m in open field conditions without requiring cables between the two units.

Designed for installation in living rooms, hallways and other main habitable spaces, the thermostat reads ambient air temperature via an electronic sensor and adjusts heating output using TPI (Time Proportional and Integral) control. This cycles the boiler on and off in short bursts rather than running continuously, reducing fuel consumption and temperature overshoot. The receiver unit fits near the boiler and provides a volt-free 16A contact output compatible with all boiler types including gas, oil, LPG and electric.

The large rotary dial allows temperature setpoint adjustment between 5°C and 30°C in 0.5°C increments, with the current room temperature and target temperature both shown on the LCD screen. A three-position mode switch on the receiver toggles between ON (continuous heating), OFF, and AUTO (thermostat control). The thermostat runs on two AA batteries (supplied) with a low-battery indicator appearing on screen when replacement is needed. Frost protection mode automatically activates heating if the temperature drops below 5°C regardless of the setpoint.

What boilers is the receiver compatible with?

The receiver provides a volt-free 16A contact output, making it compatible with all domestic boiler types including gas, oil, LPG and electric systems. The volt-free contact acts as a simple on/off switch that can be wired into any boiler's existing control circuit.

What is TPI control and why does it matter?

TPI (Time Proportional and Integral) control cycles the boiler on and off in short bursts based on how far the room temperature is from the target setpoint. This prevents temperature overshoot and reduces fuel consumption compared to simple on/off thermostats that run the boiler continuously until the target is reached.

How far apart can the thermostat and receiver be installed?

The 433MHz wireless link covers up to 30m indoors through typical walls and floors, or up to 80m in open field conditions. In most domestic installations the thermostat can be placed in the living room or hallway while the receiver sits near the boiler in a cupboard or utility room.

Does the thermostat need mains power?

No. The thermostat runs on two AA batteries (supplied) and can be wall-mounted or placed on a shelf without requiring a wired connection. The receiver unit does require a mains supply to power its internal relay and transmit signals to the boiler.
