Sangamo Choice Plus Room Thermostat - Silver

The Sangamo Choice Plus is a wired electronic room thermostat with a large rotary dial for temperature adjustment between 5°C and 30°C, a call-for-heat LED indicator at the top of the faceplate, and TPI (Time Proportional & Integral) control to improve heating efficiency. The electronic sensor responds to room temperature changes and cycles the boiler on and off in short bursts rather than simple on-off switching, which reduces temperature overshoot and fuel consumption.

Designed for single-zone residential heating control, the Choice Plus mounts to a standard UK single-gang back box and connects to the boiler via a two-core or three-core cable depending on the boiler's requirements. The 10A switch rating at 240V AC handles most domestic boilers and zone valves. The temperature swing can be adjusted between 0.5°C and 1°C to suit personal comfort preferences — a narrower swing maintains a more stable room temperature but increases boiler cycling frequency.

The silver finish faceplate measures 90mm wide by 92mm tall and sits 46mm proud of the wall when fitted. The large rotary dial is marked in 5°C increments from 5 to 30, making coarse adjustments quick and fine-tuning accessible. The blue LED above the dial illuminates when the thermostat is calling for heat, providing a visual confirmation that the system is active without needing to check the boiler itself.

What is TPI control and how does it save energy?

TPI (Time Proportional & Integral) control cycles the boiler on and off in short bursts rather than running continuously until the set temperature is reached. This prevents temperature overshoot, reduces fuel waste, and maintains a more consistent room temperature than simple on-off thermostats.

What back box is needed for installation?

The Choice Plus fits a standard UK single-gang back box at 25mm or 35mm depth. The thermostat itself projects 46mm from the wall once fitted. Wiring connections are made via screw terminals inside the back of the unit.

Can the temperature swing be adjusted?

Yes. The temperature swing — the difference between the boiler switching on and off — can be set to either 0.5°C or 1°C. A 0.5°C swing maintains tighter temperature control but increases boiler cycling frequency. A 1°C swing reduces cycling and may suit older boilers better.

Is this a wireless or smart thermostat?

No. The Choice Plus is a wired thermostat requiring a direct cable connection to the boiler or heating controls. It is not wireless and does not support smart home integration or app control.
