Description

The head on this compact black spot tilts, so light can be aimed where it is wanted rather than thrown straight out from the wall. It measures 90mm across and 105mm deep, which keeps it discreet beside a door or under a canopy. A GX53 lamp sits behind the lens and takes up to 12W, and we would choose an LED here for the low running cost. It is sealed against rain and dust, so exposed positions are no trouble.

We reach for this where a lantern would look fussy: a modern porch, a rendered garden wall, a side return, or several spaced along a boundary to graze the brickwork. Angle the head down and you get a pool of light over a doorstep; tip it up and it washes texture across stone or timber. It suits anyone after something quiet and useful rather than decorative, and the small body stays out of the way above a garage door or beside a gate. Because the lamp is a separate part, the colour temperature can be changed later without changing the fitting.

Black runs across the body and the adjustable head, with the lens set into the face. Outdoors, an occasional wipe with a damp cloth keeps cobwebs, salt and road film off the glass, and the power should be off at the switch with the lamp cold before you go near it. It carries a two year warranty. We stock the same fitting in dark grey, rust brown and white if black is too hard against pale render, and there are versions in the range with a replaceable LED already fitted for anyone who would rather not source a lamp. The lamp is not included here.

Can I use a warmer light for a patio?

Yes. Choosing the lamp yourself means you can pick 2700K for a soft, warm glow or a cooler 4000K for a crisper, more functional light.
