Roots Pendant Light 30cm - Black with Natural Wood Dome Shade

The Roots is a 30cm pendant light with a sculptural dome shade made from curved plywood slats in a natural beige wood finish, suspended from a black metal canopy. The shade is built from multiple thin plywood sections arranged vertically to create a bulbous, curved silhouette that tapers at the top and widens towards the base, allowing the internal E27 bulb (sold separately) to project light through the gaps between each slat.

Designed for dining areas, kitchen islands and living spaces with standard ceiling heights, the Roots offers an adjustable drop from a minimum of 52.5cm to a maximum of 342.5cm via a fabric-covered black cable. The plywood shade is coated with a clear lacquer that protects the wood and brings out the natural grain while maintaining the pale beige tone. The IP20 rating makes this suitable for dry interior areas only.

The combination of the warm wood slats and black metal hardware gives the Roots a mid-century Scandinavian character that pairs well with oak furniture, neutral interiors and nature-inspired schemes. The gaps between the plywood slats create a zebra-stripe lighting effect on nearby walls and ceilings when lit, adding visual texture to the space. What bulb does it take?

The Roots takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 40W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2700K for a soft ambient glow that complements the natural wood.

Can the drop height be adjusted?

Yes. The fabric-covered cable allows the pendant to be set anywhere between 52.5cm and 342.5cm drop during installation. For a dining table the typical drop is 70-80cm above the table surface, which works in rooms with ceiling heights of 2.4m or above.

How is the wood shade cleaned?

Wipe the plywood slats with a dry microfibre cloth to remove dust. For stubborn marks, a barely-damp cloth is acceptable, but avoid soaking the wood. The lacquer coating protects the plywood from minor moisture exposure but the shade should not be used in bathrooms or other high-humidity areas.

What lighting effect does the slatted shade create?

The gaps between the plywood slats allow light to escape in vertical bands, creating a striped shadow pattern on nearby walls and ceilings when the bulb is lit. This adds decorative visual texture to the room beyond the direct illumination of the bulb itself.
