The Roots is a 60cm diameter pendant light built from concentric rings of 5-layer natural plywood, arranged to form a spherical open shade around a single E27 bulb fitting. The rings are slotted together without adhesive, creating a self-supporting structure that casts layered shadow patterns across walls and ceilings when lit. A matt black metal canopy and black fabric cable suspend the wooden sphere, contrasting with the pale natural wood tone of the plywood.

Designed for dining tables, kitchen islands and living areas with ceiling heights of 2.7m or above, the Roots creates both task and ambient light depending on bulb choice. The 290cm maximum drop is adjustable down to 72.5cm on installation, allowing the pendant to be positioned 700-900mm above a table surface or higher in double-height spaces. The open structure of the wooden rings means the bulb remains visible at certain angles, so a decorative filament or globe bulb is often paired with this fitting rather than a functional LED capsule.

Each ring is cut from plywood with the grain running horizontally, giving a consistent banding pattern across the sphere. The gaps between rings are approximately 15-20mm, wide enough to allow significant light spill but narrow enough to prevent glare from the bulb when viewed from typical seated or standing positions. The 60cm diameter gives the fitting substantial presence in a 4-5m room without overwhelming smaller dining areas. The IP20 rating limits use to dry indoor spaces.

What bulb does the Roots take?

The fitting takes a standard E27 bulb up to 40W. Bulbs are sold separately. Because the bulb remains partially visible through the wooden rings, most users choose a decorative filament bulb or a globe-style LED rather than a capsule bulb.

Is the pendant height adjustable?

Yes. The black fabric cable allows adjustment from 72.5cm minimum height up to 362.5cm maximum drop during installation. For a dining table the pendant typically sits 700-900mm above the surface, which works in rooms with 2.7m or higher ceilings.

Does the wooden sphere come pre-assembled?

The plywood rings are slotted together at the factory and ship as a single assembled sphere. No assembly is required beyond connecting the cable to the ceiling rose.

Can the Roots be used in a bathroom?

No. The IP20 rating means the fitting is not splash-proof and must only be used in dry indoor spaces away from direct water contact.
