Description

The Roccanova-L is a slim solar LED floor lamp in black, made of steel, with a drum-shaped head on a fine stem and a round disc base. It stands 120cm tall, the head is 13.5cm across and the base is 20cm across, so it takes up very little floor space beside a seat. A solar panel sits on top of the head, and the integrated LED gives 270lm from 2.8W at 3000K, a warm light that falls softly downwards from beneath the shade. The IP44 rating settles where it can live: it is protected from splashing water, so it is at home outdoors on a patio, a terrace or in the garden.

Because it runs on solar power, it needs no socket nearby. That makes it an easy way to bring light to the corner of an outdoor seating area, beside a garden sofa or along the edge of a terrace where a lamp would otherwise be hard to place. We think it suits anyone who sits out on summer evenings and wants a gentle pool of light around the seats rather than a bright floodlight. The panel charges from daylight, and as general guidance it does best in an open, sunny spot. It works just as well in a garden room or a covered veranda, where its narrow profile keeps it out of the way.

The steel body is finished in black, and the shade is black too, a clean, plain look that sits quietly against brick, timber and greenery. The light is switched by touch, and its lithium-ion battery holds 1800mAh. There is also a USB port. Packed, it weighs 2.083KG. The installation instructions come as a download, and keeping the solar panel clear of leaves and dust helps it gather the most daylight.
