Description
This resin figurine shows a roaring dragon forcing its head and one clawed foot out through a brick archway, as though it has just broken through the wall. Every scale is sculpted in deep relief, from the swept-back horns and the ridge of spikes down its neck to the rows of sharp teeth in its open jaws. A scrolled border frames the arch, and the top, sides and back are moulded as brickwork, so the piece looks finished from every angle. It is grey throughout, with silvery highlights on the raised scales and darker shading in the recesses that brings out the detail. It stands 15.5cm high and 15.5cm wide, and it is 20cm deep, with the dragon's head reaching well forward of the arch.
At that size it sits comfortably on a bookshelf, a desk, a dresser or a mantelpiece, and it is compact enough to tuck in among a row of books. Because the back is finished as brickwork rather than left plain, it can stand in the middle of a sideboard or a table as happily as against a wall. We think it looks its best in a study, a reading corner or a games room, or anywhere with a fantasy or gothic feel, where a little drama goes a long way.
The figurine is made from resin, also called polystone, which holds fine sculpted texture well and gives the scales and bricks their crisp edges. It stands freely on its own base, so it needs no wall fixing. To care for it, dust it now and then with a soft dry cloth, and use a soft, clean brush to lift dust from between the scales and teeth. For a striking display, set it near the front of a shelf so the dragon leans out over the edge, or wrap it as a gift that will be hard to forget.
