Description

The AV:Link RJ11 crimp modular plug is a 4P4C (4 position, 4 contact) connector designed for terminating telephone and voice data cables. The plug uses copper conductors and a standard RJ11 footprint, making it compatible with most office phone systems, home telephone extensions, and basic voice-over-IP (VoIP) handsets that use 4-wire connections.

Designed for field termination, the plug accepts 24-26 AWG solid or stranded copper cable and is crimped using a standard RJ11/RJ12 crimping tool. The 4P4C configuration provides four physical positions with all four contacts active, which suits single-line telephone applications where two pairs are needed for the line (tip and ring) and additional signalling. It does not suit Ethernet data applications, which require the 8P8C RJ45 standard.

The transparent polycarbonate body allows visual inspection of the wire order and conductor seating before and after crimping, reducing installation errors. The plug includes an integrated strain relief boot that grips the cable jacket once crimped, preventing cable pull-out and stress on the conductor terminations. Each plug is supplied loose for custom cable runs and patch leads.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between 4P4C and 6P4C?

4P4C has four physical positions with all four contacts active. 6P4C (the more common RJ11 configuration) has six physical positions with only the centre four contacts active. Both use the same plug footprint, so a 4P4C plug will fit a 6P4C socket, but the outer two positions on the socket remain unused.

Can this be used for Ethernet?

No. Ethernet requires an 8P8C RJ45 connector with eight conductors. The 4P4C RJ11 standard is for voice and telephony only and does not support the wiring schemes or data rates needed for 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet.

What crimping tool is needed?

A standard RJ11/RJ12 crimping tool is required. Most telecom crimpers support both RJ11 (6P) and RJ45 (8P) form factors in a single tool. Ensure the crimp die matches the 4P or 6P width of the plug.

What cable gauge does it accept?

The plug accepts 24-26 AWG solid or stranded copper cable, which is standard for telephone and low-voltage voice wiring. Larger gauges will not fit the conductor slots; smaller gauges may not seat reliably.
