Description

The Reif is a 68mm diameter recessed downlight with an extended rim that drops 55mm below the ceiling plane, housing a single GU10 bulb (sold separately) within a matt black aluminium body. The extended rim projects the light aperture down from the ceiling, reducing glare when viewed from standing height and creating a defined circular shadow line around the fitting.

Designed for hallways, entrance areas and rooms with ceiling heights of 2.4m or lower, the Reif suits spaces where standard recessed downlights create harsh brightness when looked at directly. The deep-set lamp position directs light downward rather than outward, concentrating illumination on floor surfaces and reducing spill onto walls. The 68mm outer diameter fits most standard ceiling cut-outs without requiring structural changes, and the IP20 rating confirms it for dry indoor areas only.

The matt black finish on the aluminium body absorbs surrounding light rather than reflecting it, making the fitting recede visually into darker ceilings or provide a contrasting accent on white plaster. The extended rim adds 30mm of projection beyond a typical flush downlight, which affects the visual rhythm when multiple Reif fittings are installed in a grid — spacing them 1.2-1.5m apart prevents the rims from visually crowding. The GU10 base accepts any standard GU10 LED, halogen or CFL bulb up to 12W.

No. The IP20 rating confirms the Reif for dry indoor areas only. It is not rated for zones 1, 2 or 3 in UK bathroom regulations and should not be used where moisture or steam are present.

Is the fitting dimmable?

Dimming capability depends on the GU10 bulb installed, not the fitting itself. Use a dimmable GU10 LED bulb with a compatible LED dimmer switch to achieve dimming functionality.
