Reef Outdoor Small 1 Light Wall Lantern - Hematite Grey

The Reef is a 273mm outdoor wall lantern built from cast aluminium with a hematite grey powder-coated finish and an inside-etched glass capsule that diffuses light from a single E27 bulb (sold separately, up to 60W). The aluminium frame features two horizontal rings that clamp around the glass, with a domed top cap and rectangular back plate fixing the lantern to the wall.

Designed for exterior installation on house walls, porch entrances, garage sides and boundary walls, the Reef carries an IP44 rating for protection against water splashes and solid objects above 1mm. The 222mm projection from the wall gives the lantern enough standoff to cast light outward and down rather than directly into the brickwork. The etched glass softens the light and reduces glare while allowing the bulb outline to remain visible through the capsule.

The hematite grey finish is a mid-tone metallic grey with a slight satin sheen, falling between charcoal and silver. It pairs with both traditional brick and render finishes and modern cladding or timber treatments. The cast aluminium construction resists corrosion in coastal and urban environments, and the lantern weighs approximately 1.5kg when fitted. The E27 socket accepts standard LED, halogen or filament bulbs, giving control over light temperature and energy consumption.

What does the IP44 rating mean for installation?

IP44 provides protection against water splashes from any direction and solid objects above 1mm diameter. The Reef can be fitted in exposed positions on external walls, under soffits, beside front doors and on boundary walls. It is not suitable for direct downpour positions without overhead shelter or for ground-level installation where standing water could reach the base.

What bulb should I use?

The lantern takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for exterior lighting. Bulbs are sold separately.

How is the lantern fixed to the wall?

The rectangular back plate has fixing points for screws into masonry or timber. The 222mm projection from the wall means the lantern needs adequate clearance from opening doors or windows. Installation requires basic mains wiring knowledge or a qualified electrician.

Is the glass replaceable if damaged?

The etched glass capsule is secured by the two aluminium rings and can be removed if the rings are loosened. Replacement glass parts are available through Hinkley stockists, though the capsule is thick-walled and designed to withstand typical outdoor impacts.
