Description
This rectangular serving board sets a white marble insert into a warm brown acacia wood frame, giving you a smooth, cool stone surface to serve from and a wooden border that is easy to hold. The marble runs almost the full length of the board, with soft grey veining across its pale face, while the slim wooden edge frames it neatly on every side. It measures 51cm long and 10cm wide and is 2cm thick, a long, slender shape that finishes in a short, rounded handle at one end.
Its long, narrow shape is made for running down the middle of a dining table, where a row of cheeses, sliced meats, crackers or bread sits in a neat line within easy reach of everyone. At 10cm wide it suits a narrow table, a kitchen island or a buffet spread where space is tight, and the handle lets you carry it from the worktop to the table. We like it for a relaxed supper with friends, a grazing board before a Sunday lunch, or a simple spread of cakes and biscuits with afternoon tea. Between meals it looks just as good propped against the kitchen wall on a worktop or open shelf.
The marble sits within the wooden frame, which keeps a tidy, even edge all the way round and gives the board its warm outline. To care for it, wipe the marble and the wood with a damp cloth after use and dry them straight away; we would never leave it to soak, as wood and natural stone are both best kept away from standing water. Wiping up spills promptly, especially wine, oil or anything acidic, keeps the pale marble looking its best. For serving, we would add a small cheese knife and a couple of little bowls for chutney or olives, and let the long white surface do the rest.
