Description

The Ravenstead floor lamp stands 1575mm tall under a 450mm shade of Tiffany-style leaded glass, which puts the light at reading height and the colour at eye level. Two E27 lampholders sit within the shade, each taking an LED bulb of up to 10W. At 9.6kg it is a properly weighted floor light, and that mass is what keeps a shade of this size stable on a rug or an uneven floorboard. Bulbs are not included, so you can choose a warm white for evening light.

This is a corner filling floor lamp rather than a task light: put it beside an armchair, at the end of a sofa, or in the awkward corner of a sitting room that overhead lighting never quite reaches. A pair either side of a fireplace works well in a period room. Two lampholders under one shade give a fuller, softer pool of light than a single bulb, and the multicoloured glass throws colour onto the wall behind it once lit. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The shade is built from small pieces of coloured glass set into soldered metal seams and carried on a metal frame, above a metal stand. It is a Class 2 fitting and is not dimmable, so it runs at full output. Dust the shade with a dry soft cloth, lift marks with a barely damp cloth and dry at once, and keep sprays and abrasive creams away from the seams; wipe the stand with a dry cloth only.
