Description

The Ravenstead large table lamp stands 630mm tall beneath a 450mm shade of Tiffany-style leaded glass, which is a generous shade for a table lamp and gives the light real spread. Two E14 lampholders sit within it, each taking a golf ball bulb of up to 40W, and an LED bulb of the same small screw cap and golf shape will fit equally well. The lamp weighs 5.2kg, so it sits firmly wherever you put it. Bulbs are not included.

A shade this wide asks for a surface with some depth: a console table, a sideboard, a wide side table, or a hall table where the lamp can be seen from both sides. Two lampholders under one shade give a fuller, more even pool of light than a single bulb, which suits a sitting room used in the evening. The multicoloured glass throws colour onto the wall behind it once lit, and it sits as well in a period room as it does against plain modern paint. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor use.

The shade is made from small pieces of coloured glass set into soldered metal seams over a metal frame, above a metal base. It is a Class 1 fitting, so it is earthed, and it is not a dimmable lamp, meaning it runs at full output. Dust the shade with a dry soft cloth, lift marks with a barely damp cloth and dry at once, and keep sprays and abrasive creams away from the seams; wipe the base with a dry cloth only.
