Description

The Quasar is a compact outdoor wall light with a white powder-coated die-cast aluminium body, a tilted conical shade and a single GU10 fitting housed behind a sandblasted tempered glass diffuser. The IP43 rating provides protection against solid objects over 1mm and water spray at angles up to 60° from vertical, making it suitable for covered outdoor areas such as porches, verandas and recessed porch entries where direct rainfall is minimal.

Designed for accent and functional lighting on exterior walls, the Quasar measures 115mm wide with a 95mm projection from the wall. The angled shade directs light downward and forward in a controlled beam, providing task lighting for doorways, paths and steps without spilling light upward into windows or neighbouring properties. The compact footprint suits narrow wall sections between windows or alongside front doors where larger fittings would dominate.

The sandblasted glass diffuser softens the light output from the GU10 bulb (sold separately) and reduces glare when viewed from below. The white powder-coated finish resists corrosion in coastal and high-humidity environments and pairs with white render, painted timber cladding and light-coloured brick. The die-cast aluminium construction provides rigidity against wind load and temperature cycling between summer heat and winter cold.

The Quasar accepts any standard GU10 LED bulb up to the maximum wattage specified for the fitting. Dimmable GU10 bulbs can be used with a compatible dimmer switch on the circuit, allowing light levels to be adjusted for evening ambience or full-brightness task lighting. The fitting is wired directly to mains via a standard UK outdoor junction box or weatherproof connector behind the backplate.

Can the Quasar be used in fully exposed locations?

No. The IP43 rating protects against dust and light water spray but not sustained rainfall or submersion. Install the Quasar under eaves, porches, verandas or other covered areas where direct rain is minimal. For fully exposed walls use a fitting rated IP54 or higher.

What bulb does it take?

The Quasar takes a standard GU10 bulb (sold separately). Most users pair it with a 4-6W LED GU10 in warm white (2700K-3000K) for accent lighting or a 6-8W for functional task light. Check the Specification tab for the maximum wattage rating.

Is it dimmable?

Yes, when fitted with a dimmable GU10 bulb and connected to a compatible dimmer switch on the circuit. Non-dimmable GU10 bulbs will work but cannot be dimmed.

How is it mounted?

The backplate fixes to an outdoor junction box or weatherproof connector on the wall using two screws. Cable entry is through the rear of the backplate. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with UK wiring regulations.
