Description

The QTX QXW8 is an 8-inch high-power woofer (the US term is 'subwoofer driver' for the low-frequency role, though this is a mid-bass woofer) built around a reinforced aramid fibre cone. Aramid fibre is a stiff, lightweight material that holds its shape under load, so the cone moves accurately without flexing. That keeps the bass tight and controlled, even when you push the volume. It sits within our range of replacement and project drivers aimed at Hi-Fi builders and repairs.

A rubber surround supports the cone and allows plenty of travel, which helps with clean low-end output and long-term reliability. The 4-layer voice coil is heat resistant, so the woofer copes well with sustained power and short peaks without losing composure. Behind the cone, a vented magnet assembly keeps the coil cooler by letting air move through the motor, which reduces the risk of thermal compression during longer listening sessions.

The chassis (or basket, as it is sometimes called in the US) is black metal, giving the driver a solid mounting frame that resists ringing and vibration. Connection is made through spade terminals, so wiring into an existing enclosure or crossover is straightforward. Rated at 8 ohms, the QXW8 matches most standard amplifiers and passive setups. It suits people replacing a failed driver, upgrading an older speaker, or building a cabinet from scratch, and it produces a smooth, even sound across its working band.

What impedance is the QXW8?

It is rated at 8 ohms, which matches most standard amplifiers and passive crossover setups.

Why does the cone use aramid fibre?

Aramid fibre is stiff and light, so the cone keeps its shape under load. That gives accurate, tight bass without flexing.

How does it connect?

The QXW8 uses spade terminals, making it easy to wire into an existing enclosure or crossover.

What does the vented magnet do?
