Description

The QTX QXW5 is a 5.25" high-power woofer built around a reinforced aramid fibre cone. Aramid is a tough synthetic fibre that keeps the cone rigid without adding much weight, so it holds its shape under hard use and gives a clean, controlled low end. It is one of a range of QTX woofers designed for people building or repairing their own Hi-Fi and speaker cabinets.

Behind the cone you get a vented magnet and a heat-resistant 4 layer voice coil, both of which help the driver cope with power peaks without losing its composure. The rubber surround allows the cone to move freely while keeping distortion down, and the black metal chassis (also called the basket or frame) gives the whole assembly a solid mounting base. Spade terminals make wiring straightforward, so you can connect the woofer without soldering if you prefer.
