Description

The QTX 6.3mm mono jack plug uses gold-plated contacts inside an aluminium shell with an integrated strain-relief boot. The gold plating on the tip and sleeve contacts resists oxidation and maintains conductivity over repeated insertion cycles, while the aluminium cover provides mechanical protection without adding significant weight to the cable assembly.

Designed for soldering onto instrument cables, speaker leads and patch cables in live sound, recording and installation contexts, the plug accepts cable outer diameters up to 6mm. The strain-relief boot grips the cable jacket to reduce stress on the solder joints during repeated flexing, extending the working life of custom-built cables. The plug body is threaded to allow the shell to be screwed down once soldering is complete, enclosing the internal connections.

The mono configuration carries a single audio signal on the tip contact with the sleeve as ground, making it suitable for unbalanced connections between instruments, guitar pedals, amplifiers and PA equipment. The 6.3mm diameter matches the standard quarter-inch jack socket found on most guitar amplifiers, mixing consoles, effects units and professional audio interfaces. The aluminium shell dissipates heat faster than plastic during soldering, reducing the risk of damaging the internal insulator.

Frequently Asked

What cable diameter does it accept?

The strain-relief boot accepts cable outer diameters up to 6mm. Thicker cables will not fit through the boot and shell assembly.

Is it suitable for balanced signals?

No. This is a mono (2-pole) jack plug with tip and sleeve contacts only. Balanced connections require a stereo (3-pole) jack with tip, ring and sleeve contacts.

What's the advantage of gold plating?

Gold resists oxidation better than bare copper or nickel, maintaining low contact resistance over time. This matters most in environments with high humidity or where plugs are inserted and removed frequently.

Can it be used for speaker connections?

Yes, provided the amplifier output uses an unbalanced 6.3mm jack socket. Check the amplifier's output impedance and power rating to ensure compatibility with the speaker load.
