Description

The QTX 3.5mm stereo jack plug features a chrome-plated metal barrel and housing with a spring cable protector at the rear. The plug accepts cables up to 5mm in diameter and provides three solder terminals for tip, ring and sleeve connections in a standard stereo or balanced TRS configuration.

Designed for custom cable assembly, repairs and upgrades, the plug suits applications including headphone extension cables, audio patch leads between mixers and portable devices, instrument connections and line-level signal runs between studio equipment. The metal construction provides shielding and durability over plastic alternatives, while the spring protector reduces flex fatigue at the cable entry point where repeated plugging cycles would otherwise cause strain.

The chrome finish resists corrosion and provides a low-resistance contact surface for the tip, ring and sleeve terminals. The plug body is approximately 35mm in length from tip to the rear of the spring protector, with a 6mm diameter barrel that fits standard 3.5mm jack sockets on headphones, mixers, audio interfaces, laptops and mobile devices. Solder connections inside the plug require a clean tip and controlled heat to avoid damaging the internal insulators.

Frequently Asked

What cable diameter does it accept?

The rear cable entry accepts cables up to 5mm outer diameter. Smaller cables down to 3mm can also be used, though the spring protector may be looser on narrower cables.

Is it suitable for balanced TRS connections?

Yes. The plug provides three solder terminals for tip, ring and sleeve, allowing it to be wired in stereo unbalanced or balanced TRS configurations depending on the application.

What tools are needed to assemble it?

Assembly requires a soldering iron with a fine tip, solder, wire strippers and a small amount of heat-shrink tubing if additional strain relief is desired. The plug body unscrews to expose the solder terminals.

Does it provide shielding?

The metal barrel and housing provide electromagnetic shielding when the sleeve terminal is connected to the cable shield. Proper shielding depends on correct soldering and using screened cable.
