Description

The Provence is a single-light rise and fall pendant with a conical polished nickel shade suspended on a black twisted-fabric cable through a counterweight pulley system. The pulley mechanism allows the pendant height to be adjusted after installation by pulling the shade down or releasing it upward, with the counterweight holding the chosen position without fixed cable ties or separate fixing points.

Designed for kitchen islands, dining tables and breakfast bars where the ideal pendant height varies depending on activity, the Provence allows light to be lowered during meal preparation or close task work and raised during seated dining or general room use. The adjustable drop suits ceiling heights from 2.4m upward, with the shade typically set 600-900mm above a worktop or 700-800mm above a dining surface. The polished nickel shade reflects both direct downlight and ambient room light, brightening the immediate task area while throwing soft upward wash onto the ceiling.

The conical shade measures approximately 305mm diameter at the base and tapers to a narrow neck that threads onto the E27 lampholder (bulb sold separately). The polished nickel finish shows a mirror-like surface that picks up reflections from surrounding finishes and daylight, making it more reflective than satin or brushed nickel alternatives. The ceiling rose is also finished in polished nickel and houses the pulley mechanism, with three black twisted-fabric cables running from the rose — two support the counterweight, one runs through the pulley to the shade.

Frequently Asked

How does the rise and fall mechanism work?

A counterweight pulley system inside the ceiling rose allows the shade to be raised or lowered by hand. Pull the shade downward to lower it, or lift it gently upward and release to raise it. The counterweight holds the shade at the chosen height without needing to adjust cable ties or separate fixings.

What bulb does it take?

The pendant takes a single E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W equivalent. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED in the 6-10W range and 2700K-3000K colour temperature for general dining and kitchen use.

What is the maximum and minimum drop?

The adjustable drop range depends on the cable length supplied and the counterweight travel. Typical installations allow adjustment between approximately 500mm minimum drop and 1500mm maximum drop from the ceiling rose to the base of the shade, though this should be confirmed from the specification table below.

Is the polished nickel finish easy to maintain?

Polished nickel shows fingerprints and water marks more readily than brushed or satin finishes. Wipe the shade and ceiling rose with a dry microfibre cloth regularly to maintain the mirror-like surface. For stubborn marks, a barely-damp cloth with distilled water is acceptable, but dry immediately to avoid water spotting.
