Description

Prinorne is a compact outdoor wall light with a rounded half-dome body in black cast aluminium and a fluted glass shade tucked beneath its curved hood. It is 22cm long and 15.5cm high, and it stands 12.5cm out from the wall, so it sits neatly beside a door or along a narrow path without crowding the space. It takes an E27 bulb of up to 40W, and the IP44 rating settles the question of weather: it is protected from splashing water, so it lives outdoors on a house wall.

We would put it beside a front or back door, along the side of a house, by a garage or on a garden wall, anywhere you want a steady light to find a step or a keyhole after dark. Fluted glass breaks up the glare of a bare bulb, which makes the light kinder to visitors and neighbours alike. Corner mounting is possible too, so it can go on the corner of a porch or an outbuilding as well as on a flat wall. The black finish sits comfortably against pale render, brick and dark window frames, and the simple shape suits a modern home as readily as an older cottage.

The body is cast aluminium, which is light and does not rust, and two small screws hold the metal strip along the base of the glass. A narrow slot runs across the crown of the hood. There is no switch on the light itself: it is switched at the wall, so you turn it on and off from a wall switch. As a wired mains light, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions are available as a download. The bulb is not included, so choose an E27 bulb of no more than 40W before the fitting is mounted.
