Description

Prado is a compact wall light that keeps close to the wall, with a black body just 85mm across and an opal white shade to spread the light gently. It takes an E27 lamp, so an LED GLS sits in it neatly, and with a dimmable lamp and a matching dimmer the brightness can be brought down for the evening. There is no switch on the fitting itself, so it works from the room's wall switch. Nothing about it shouts: it is a plain shape that does its job and leaves the wall alone.

It is rated against splashing water, which makes it useful in bathrooms and shower rooms, beside a basin mirror or in a cloakroom where space is tight. It is just as much at home in a hallway, on a landing or under a covered porch. We stock it in black with the opal shade, and we would fit one to each side of a mirror for even light across the face. It is also one we reach for in narrow spaces, where a deeper fitting would catch a sleeve or a shoulder.

The black finish reads quiet against pale walls, while the opal shade keeps the lamp from direct view. Watch the lamp rating when you buy, as 20W is the ceiling here. To clean, turn the power off at the switch, wipe the shade with a soft damp cloth and dry it before the light goes back on. It carries a two year warranty. Lamps are not included, and the range also runs to a two lamp version in the same black and opal pairing, handy where a single point has to cover a wider stretch of wall.
