Description

The Portland is a nine light chandelier with nine round dishes of clear ribbed glass, each held in a polished brass frame and set facing outwards around a black ring. The glass is ribbed in close concentric circles, so each bulb glows through it in soft rings of light rather than as a bare point. Three black rods rise from the ring to a polished brass hub, which hangs from a chain in the same finish. Made from brass, steel and glass, it is 108.5cm tall and 107.2cm across, a large chandelier that gives a room a strong centre.

At over a metre across, this ribbed glass chandelier wants space around it. In a dining room it can hang over a long table, where the ring of glowing dishes is seen from every chair, and in a living room with the height and floor space to let it hang clear, it becomes the fitting the whole room gathers round. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only. Polished brass against black gives it an industrial character without any coldness, while the clear glass keeps so large a fitting looking open and light.

Every Portland is made to order for you in Ireland, in brass, steel and glass with a polished brass finish, and the small round bolts that hold each dish in its frame are left on show as part of the design. Bulbs are sold separately: it takes nine E27 bulbs, up to 40W per bulb. The maker guarantees the fittings it makes for five years from the date of purchase; bulbs are not covered. It is a mains fitting, wired in to the mains by a qualified electrician.
