Description

The Polruan is a traditional coach-style outdoor wall lantern with seeded glass panels set into a four-sided mud black metal frame, topped with a turned finial. The lantern houses a single E27 bulb fitting (sold separately) behind the textured glass, which diffuses the light outward through all four sides of the frame.

Designed for porches, front doors, garage entrances and garden walls, the Polruan carries an IP44 rating for protection against solid objects above 1mm and water splashes from any direction. This makes it suitable for installation in exposed positions including under open eaves and on external boundary walls. The 204mm projection from the wall and 340mm height give the lantern enough presence to light a doorstep or patio seating area without overwhelming a typical suburban porch.

The mud black powder-coated finish is a slightly textured grey-black rather than a gloss black, which reduces visible weathering and fingerprints on the metal frame. The seeded glass panels show deliberate air bubbles and texture variations in the glass, a traditional technique that adds visual interest when the lantern is lit and softens the bulb's direct glare. The lantern accepts LED, halogen or decorative filament bulbs up to 60W on an E27 base.

Is the Polruan suitable for fully exposed positions?

The IP44 rating protects against water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for installation under open eaves, on porches, and on external walls. It is not rated for submersion or direct high-pressure water jets, so avoid positions where it would be hit by garden hose spray or heavy driving rain without overhead shelter.

What bulb does it take?

The lantern takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K for a traditional porch light appearance, though decorative filament bulbs also work well behind the seeded glass.

How is the lantern mounted?

The lantern mounts to an external wall via a circular backplate with two fixing points. The backplate diameter is approximately 120mm. Standard wall plugs and screws are included with the fitting, though masonry fixings may be needed for brick or stone walls.

Can the glass panels be replaced if damaged?
