Description

The Polar is a compact cylindrical pendant light with an 8.2cm diameter and 8.5cm height, finished in matt white aluminium with a white plastic diffuser at the base. The GX53 bulb fitting sits recessed inside the cylinder, directing light downward through the diffuser. The pendant suspends from a matching white ceiling rose on a height-adjustable cable that allows drops from 11cm to 108.5cm.

Designed for focused task lighting over kitchen counters, breakfast bars and work surfaces, the Polar suits ceiling heights of 2.4m or higher where the pendant can be set 60-90cm above the counter. The short cylinder depth and downward-only light throw make it a practical choice for lower ceilings or positions where a larger shade would intrude into sightlines. The adjustable cable allows the drop to be set during installation to suit the specific ceiling height and work surface position.

The matt white finish on the aluminium body absorbs reflections rather than casting highlights, making the fitting recede visually when installed in clusters or rows over an island. The GX53 base is a low-profile disc format designed for compact fittings, and bulbs in this format are widely available in LED variants from 5W to 15W across 2700K to 4000K colour temperatures. The IP20 rating restricts use to dry indoor locations only.

The fitting takes a GX53 disc-format bulb up to 15W. GX53 bulbs are sold separately and are available in LED, CFL and halogen variants, though LED is recommended for longevity and lower running cost. Most users install warm white LED bulbs at 2700K-3000K for kitchen task lighting.

Can it be used in a bathroom?

No. The IP20 rating means the fitting is not protected against moisture ingress and must only be used in dry indoor locations. Bathrooms require IP44 or higher.

How is the height adjusted?

The cable runs through the ceiling rose and is adjusted by loosening a grip mechanism inside the rose, setting the pendant at the required drop height, then tightening the grip to lock the cable in place. This is done during installation and is not easily adjusted once the fitting is live.

Can multiple Polar pendants be installed in a row?

Yes. The compact 8.2cm diameter and matt finish make the Polar suitable for installation in clusters or rows over kitchen islands or long counters. Spacing of 40-60cm between pendants is typical for even coverage without shadows.
