Description

The Plymouth is an 8-light chandelier built around a central bronze hub with eight curved arms radiating outward, each terminating in an E14 candle-style fitting. The entire frame is finished in hand-rubbed old bronze, a process that leaves subtle tonal variation across the metalwork and highlights the curves and scrollwork of the arms. The fitting measures 610mm in diameter and 1115mm in height before the chain, making it a substantial presence in double-height entrance halls and dining rooms with ceiling heights above 3m.

Designed for high-ceiling residential and hospitality spaces, the Plymouth hangs on a 3048mm chain that can be shortened on installation to achieve drops between 1195mm minimum and 4243mm maximum. The eight E14 bulbs (sold separately) are arranged in two tiers — three inner arms and five outer arms — creating a layered light effect when fitted with candle or flame-tip bulbs. The old bronze finish pairs with both traditional oak-panelled interiors and darker contemporary schemes where a warm metallic accent is needed.

Each arm features decorative scrollwork at the shoulder and a turned candle sleeve at the bulb position, recalling early American colonial hanging lights. The bronze finish is applied by hand-rubbing rather than electroplating, so the surface develops a slight patina over time rather than remaining uniformly consistent. The chandelier weighs approximately 8kg and requires secure ceiling fixing to a joist or RSJ-mounted hook capable of supporting dynamic loads.

Frequently Asked

What bulbs does the Plymouth take?

The chandelier takes eight E14 small Edison screw bulbs, each up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most installations use candle or flame-tip LED bulbs between 4-6W and 2700K for a warm traditional glow that complements the bronze finish.

What ceiling height is needed?

The minimum drop of 1195mm plus the 1115mm fitting height means the base of the chandelier sits approximately 2.3m below the ceiling rose when hung at minimum drop. For dining tables the chandelier typically sits 750-900mm above the table surface, so ceiling heights of 3.2m or above work best. Higher ceilings up to 5.3m can use the full 4243mm drop.

Can the chain be shortened after installation?

The chain length is set during installation by removing links before final electrical connection. Once installed and wired, shortening the chain requires isolating the circuit, disconnecting the chandelier, and re-wiring after adjustment.

How is the old bronze finish maintained?

The hand-rubbed old bronze develops a natural patina over time. Wipe with a dry microfibre cloth to remove dust. Do not use metal polish or abrasive cleaners, as these will strip the hand-applied finish and create uneven colour.
