Description

This is a small LED capsule on G9 pins, made for fittings where a compact lamp sits on show. The casing is clear rather than frosted, so the light carries a little sparkle through a shade instead of a flat wash. It draws 7W and puts out 540 lumens of warm white at 3000K, a soft, faintly golden tone that settles well against pale walls and painted woodwork. Light leaves it all the way round, so a shade fills evenly rather than being lit from one side.

We reach for a G9 capsule like this in wall lights, small pendants and multi-arm fittings, and in shades where a larger lamp would look out of proportion. It dims, which makes it worth having in a sitting room or bedroom where the level wants dropping in the evening, though it does need a dimmer suited to LED lamps, and no dimmer is supplied with it. If you are moving away from older halogen capsules, this keeps the familiar size and a similar warmth while asking a great deal less of the supply. The lamp is a clear outer over a white body, with the usual pair of G9 pins, so it replaces like for like in anything already taking that base. Let it cool fully, then wipe the clear surface with a dry cloth; sprays and solvents are best kept away, since anything left on the surface will show plainly once the light is on. It carries a three year warranty. Because the casing is clear, the capsule is part of what you see, so we would choose it where a shade is open or only lightly frosted and there is no reason to hide the lamp away.
