Description

This is a small clear capsule lamp for G9 holders, the kind used in wall lights, cluster pendants, picture fittings and slim table lamps. It draws 5W and gives 400 lumens, which is a useful amount of light from a lamp barely larger than a thumbnail. The colour is 4000K, a cool white that reads clean and crisp rather than golden. It runs without flicker, which matters when several capsules sit close together at eye level, and it is not dimmable, so it wants a plain switch rather than a trailing edge dimmer.

We reach for cool white where light is doing work rather than setting a mood: over a worktop, in a study, above a dressing mirror or in a utility room where you want colours to read honestly. It also suits a hallway fitting that has to wake up early in the morning. If you have a multi arm fitting, we would put the same capsule in every holder so the light stays even, and we would keep this one out of a bedside lamp where a warmer tone is kinder late at night.

The clear body leaves the light source on show, so it works well in shades and glass that are meant to be looked through, and less well behind a fully open frame where the eye lands straight on it. Let it go cold before you touch it, take it out by the base rather than the top, and lift dust off with a dry cloth so the surface stays bright. It carries a three year warranty.
