Description
A capsule lamp of this size sits behind a great many small fittings, and this is the clear version, drawing 5W. The light is warm white at 3000K, the softer end of white that flatters living rooms and bedrooms, and it runs steadily, without the faint flicker some capsules bring. Output is 380 lumens, enough to carry a wall light on its own or to work in a group across the arms of a chandelier. It is not dimmable, so it asks for a plain on-off switch.
We reach for G9 capsules in multi-arm ceiling lights, compact wall lights, cabinet lighting and the small glass pendants that would look wrong with anything bigger inside. A clear body matters most where the lamp is on show, since behind cut glass or a crystal drop it throws the sparkle a frosted lamp would soften away. Tucked inside a fabric shade it simply gets on with the job. It suits anyone still working through a house full of halogen capsules, which ran hotter and gave out sooner by comparison, and it is a sensible thing to keep in the drawer.
Construction is straightforward: a clear envelope over the LED board, with the pins set into the base. There is nothing to polish, though fingerprints and dust show readily on a clear body, so let it cool and give it a dry wipe when you next have the shade off. It carries a three year warranty. We would keep spares by, because a chandelier or a run of wall lights looks wrong the moment a lamp goes dark and the rest carry on. If you want the lamp to read as a bright point in an open fitting, this is the one we choose; where the light is diffused anyway, the choice matters far less.

Frequently Asked
How big is it?
It measures 16mm across and 50mm tall, which is the usual capsule size for G9 fittings with tight glass shades or close-set arms.
Can I use it on a dimmer?
No. It is non-dimmable and should be run from a standard on-off switch. Fitting it to a dimmer circuit can cause flicker, buzz or early failure.
How warm is the light?
3000K warm white, with a colour rendering figure above 80, so skin tones, wood and fabrics read naturally. It is a touch crisper than an old-fashioned filament bulb but still firmly on the warm side.
How long should it last?
It is rated at 25,000 hours of average life, and it draws 5W against the 380 lumens it gives out.
How wide does the light spread?
Very wide, at a 320 degree beam angle, so it lights the whole inside of a shade rather than pushing light in one direction. That is what makes it suit chandeliers and glass pendants.
How should I clean it?
Switch off at the wall and let the lamp cool completely, then wipe the body with a dry cloth. Avoid sprays and damp cloths near the pins.
