Description

A G9 capsule this small does a lot of quiet work. It draws 4W and gives back 350 lumens of warm white at 2700K, the soft, faintly golden light most people picture when they think of a filament lamp. The body is clear, so the LED elements sit on show rather than behind a frosted skin, and the light spreads right around the lamp instead of throwing forward in a cone. It dims, though it wants a dimmer suited to LED loads, and no dimmer comes with it.

G9 fittings turn up wherever space is tight: multi-arm ceiling lights, wall lights with small glass shades, bedside pendants and cabinet fittings where a larger lamp would never sit. The capsule is often in plain view in those, and a clear one looks right where a frosted lamp reads as a blank white pill. We reach for this as our standard swap when someone brings in a tired halogen capsule and wants the same look on a fraction of the power. Being dimmable, it earns its place in dining rooms and bedrooms, where the level wants dropping once the evening sets in.

It comes in a clear and white finish, small enough to disappear inside an open shade. Wipe it with a dry cloth while the fitting is off and cold, and hold it by the base rather than the clear section, since dust and fingermarks show on a bare capsule the moment the light goes on.
