Description

A tiny capsule lamp with a two pin G4 base, sized to sit inside fittings where there is barely room for anything at all. The light is warm white, close to 3000K, and the clear body lets the small LED array read as a bright point rather than a soft wash, which suits open glass and cut crystal where you want a little sparkle. At 2W it draws very little for the amount of light it gives, and it goes where the small halogen capsules used to go. It is not dimmable, so it wants a plain switched circuit rather than a trailing edge dimmer.

We reach for these in under cabinet strips, glass wall lights, small multi arm fittings and lit display cabinets, and in low voltage downlights that take a capsule rather than a GU10. Output is 165 lumens, which is enough for close work over a worktop and sensible where several lamps share the job in one fitting. It works on a low voltage supply fed from a transformer or driver rather than straight off the mains, so it is worth knowing which of the two your fitting uses before you order.

The body and lens are clear, with a white collar at the base where the pins emerge, and the finished lamp weighs almost nothing in the hand. Cleaning is a job for a dry cloth once the lamp is cool and the circuit off, holding it by the base rather than the clear section, because marks show quickly on a bare capsule. It carries a three year warranty. If you are relamping a fitting with several holders, we would change all of them together so the colour stays even across the whole piece.
