Description

The Pentleigh large inverted pendant sets a 500mm bowl of Tiffany-style leaded glass open side up, so the room is lit by light bouncing off the ceiling rather than by a bare downward beam. Height adjusts between 600mm and 1000mm to suit the ceiling you are working with. Three E27 lampholders sit inside the bowl, each taking a GLS bulb of up to 60W, and an LED bulb of the same cap and shape will fit just as well. Bulbs are not included. The finished ceiling light weighs 3.4kg.

This is a pendant light for rooms that can carry some width above head height: a dining room, a wide sitting room, or a hallway with a tall ceiling. Upward light flatters plasterwork and coving, and it keeps glare out of the way when people are seated for a long evening. The multicoloured glass gives a period room the warmth it asks for, and against plain modern paint it becomes the one piece of pattern in the room. It is rated IP20, so keep it to dry indoor spaces.

Individual pieces of coloured glass are set into soldered metal seams and held on a metal frame, and the tone of the panels changes as daylight moves across them. Dust with a dry soft cloth, wipe marks with a barely damp cloth and dry immediately, and keep sprays and abrasive creams away from the metalwork. The fitting is Class 1 and needs an earthed supply, and it dims with a compatible dimmer switch and dimmable bulbs. A Pentleigh semi flush, table lamp and wall light run alongside it in the same range.
