Description
The Parkstone Medium is a 400mm basalt stone bollard with an integrated 6W LED downlight and 316 stainless steel top plate. The LED sits beneath the stainless steel cap, directing warm 3000K light downward through the rectangular aperture cut into the front face of the stone column. The basalt surface shows the natural texture and tonal variation of the volcanic rock, with each bollard cut from a different section of stone.
Designed for pathways, driveways, garden borders and terrace perimeters, the Parkstone provides low-level directional light to define routes and mark boundaries without spilling light upward into windows or sky. The 220mm square footprint requires a base plate or shallow foundation depending on the surface material. The IP55 rating allows installation in exposed positions where the bollard will be subject to rain, dust and frost. The downward-facing LED keeps the light source shielded from direct view, reducing glare when approached from standing height.
The combination of rough-cut basalt and brushed stainless steel pairs well with contemporary architecture, minimalist landscaping and gravel or slate hard landscaping. The stone absorbs heat during the day and releases it slowly after sunset, giving the bollard a different tactile quality to metal or resin equivalents. The basalt will weather over time, developing surface patina and minor colour shifts depending on rainfall and exposure, while the stainless steel resists corrosion in coastal and urban environments.

Frequently Asked
How is the Parkstone bollard installed?
The bollard requires either a surface-mounted base plate on solid ground or a shallow foundation in soft landscaping. The cable entry is typically through the base. A qualified electrician should install and connect to mains supply, ensuring IP-rated cable glands are used to maintain the IP55 rating.
Is the basalt stone waterproof?
Basalt is a dense volcanic rock with low porosity, so it absorbs minimal water. The IP55 rating confirms the bollard can withstand rain, snow and dust ingress without affecting the LED or internal components. The stone may darken slightly when wet, returning to its dry tone as it dries.
Can the LED be replaced?
The 6W LED is integrated into the bollard assembly. It is rated for approximately 25,000-30,000 hours of use, equivalent to 10-15 years at typical outdoor usage levels. The entire LED module can be replaced by a qualified electrician if required after this period.
Will the basalt change colour over time?
Natural stone weathers depending on exposure. In damp, shaded positions the basalt may develop algae or moss on the surface, giving it a greenish tint. In exposed, sunny positions the stone may lighten slightly. These are natural processes and do not affect the structural integrity or IP rating of the bollard.
