Description

The Knightsbridge OL01W is a cube-frame outdoor wall light with a matt black die-cast aluminium housing and an opal polycarbonate diffuser panel on four sides. The fitting takes a single E27 bulb up to 20W (sold separately) and carries an IP54 rating for use in UK outdoor conditions where dust ingress and rain are expected but not direct water jets.

Designed for mounting on external walls at entrances, garden paths, driveways, garage sides and fence posts, the light emits through the top panel and three vertical faces, giving 360-degree horizontal spread from a corner or wall-mounted position. The 245mm height and 148mm projection mean the light extends from the wall enough to cast over a pathway without protruding far into walking space. The opal diffuser softens the bulb filament or LED chip and prevents glare when viewed from ground level.

The die-cast aluminium frame resists corrosion in coastal and wet environments better than mild steel alternatives, and the matt black powder-coat finish hides minor weathering marks and blends with dark cladding, rendered walls and charcoal-painted woodwork. Class I earthing requires a standard earth connection during installation. The fitting weighs approximately 800g when empty, allowing it to be fixed to most rendered or masonry walls with two screws into wall plugs.

IP54 means the fitting is protected against dust ingress and water splashing from any direction. It can handle UK rain and garden hose spray but is not submersible and should not be installed where it will be hit by pressure washers or direct hose jets.

What bulb should I use?

The fitting takes any E27 bulb up to 20W. Most users pair it with a 6-10W warm-white LED bulb at 2700K-3000K for soft ambient path lighting. Higher-wattage bulbs can be used up to the 20W limit for brighter task lighting at doorways.

Is the light dimmable?

Dimming depends on the bulb. If you use a dimmable LED bulb and connect the fitting to a compatible outdoor dimmer, the light can be dimmed. Non-dimmable bulbs will not dim regardless of the dimmer.

How is it mounted?

The fitting mounts with two screws into wall plugs on masonry, brick or rendered walls. The back plate has fixing holes for M6 or similar screws. An earth connection is required as the fitting is Class I.
