Description
Olympia is a modern shaggy rug in grey and yellow, laid out in interlocking rectangular blocks that run on the diagonal across the rug, rather like a woven basket. The blocks move between pale silver grey, a deeper charcoal grey, bright yellow and a warmer mustard, so the pattern reads clearly from across the room. It is machine made in polyester, and the outline of each block is cut by hand into the pile, which gives the pattern its crisp edges. The pile is multi-textured, with different textures from block to block, so it looks and feels varied underfoot.
This is a rug for the living room, where grey and yellow bring warmth to a modern scheme. We sell it in three sizes. The 80 by 150cm rug suits a smaller space, in front of a fireplace, beside a chair or across a reading corner. The 120 by 170cm size sits well in front of a sofa or under a coffee table, and the 160 by 220cm rug is large enough to anchor a seating area, with the front legs of the sofa and chairs resting on it.
A metallic effect yarn runs through the pile, giving the grey and yellow a soft sheen that catches the light by a window or under a lamp. The hand-cut outlines keep each block distinct, so the design reads as a clear pattern. Before you choose a size, measure the floor you want to cover and leave a margin of bare floor around the edges.
