Description
The Olten is a 30cm bollard light built from aluminium with a graphite powder-coated finish, housing an integrated 12W LED that casts warm 3000K light downward onto pathways. The cylindrical body sits on a circular surface-mount base, with the LED module positioned inside the top section to direct light through a downward-facing aperture. The IP65 rating protects internal components from dust ingress and water jets, making the fitting suitable for UK garden paths, driveways and courtyards exposed to rain.
At 30cm height and 12cm diameter, the Olten provides low-level path marking without obstructing sightlines across garden layouts. The compact footprint suits tight spacing along narrow side passages or stepped garden levels where taller bollards would dominate. The downward light throw minimises upward glare, keeping the focus on the ground surface rather than creating light pollution into neighbouring windows or planting beds. The fitting accepts 110-240V AC mains input, making it compatible with standard UK outdoor lighting circuits without requiring a separate transformer.
The graphite finish is a mid-tone charcoal that sits between matt black and mid-grey, pairing comfortably with slate paving, dark render, and weathered timber without the harshness of pure black or the visibility of lighter greys. The aluminium construction keeps the overall weight manageable for surface mounting onto existing paving or concrete without needing structural reinforcement. The integrated LED eliminates the need for bulb replacement, and the 3000K colour temperature provides a warm white output that complements external brick and stonework without the clinical tone of cooler daylight LEDs.

Frequently Asked
What does IP65 mean for outdoor use?
IP65 means the fitting is fully dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction. It will withstand UK rain, garden hose spray and surface water pooling, making it suitable for open garden paths, driveways and courtyards. It is not submersible.
How is the Olten mounted?
The bollard mounts directly onto a flat paved or concrete surface via a circular base plate. The electrical cable enters through the base, so installation requires either surface-laid armoured cable or a cable channel cut into the paving before the bollard is fixed down.
Can the LED be replaced?
The LED is integrated into the fitting and is not user-replaceable. The LED module is rated for approximately 25,000 hours of operation, which equates to around 8-10 years of typical evening-only outdoor use before noticeable degradation.
What spacing is recommended along a path?
Spacing depends on path width and desired light intensity. For a 1m-wide garden path with moderate lighting, spacing the Olten every 2-3m provides continuous ground illumination without dark gaps. For accent lighting rather than full illumination, 4-5m spacing works well.
