Description
The NPK-20 builds on the popular NPK-10, keeping the same compact format but adding a full 88-note keyboard. The triple-sensor, graded hammer-action keys use escapement and have been further optimised to respond to downforce, rebound and legato passages. Sound comes from base-mounted stereo speakers, or from two headphone outputs under the front edge of the keyboard for quiet practice. At its heart is a multi-sampled, high-end grand piano voice, one of 271 internal sounds divided across 7 groups.
You can split the keyboard or layer two sounds together, with octave-shift and balance control to set the mix. Internal effects include 4 reverb models, 4 compression profiles, chorus, delay and a 9-band EQ, each with its own parameter settings. Editing is handled through the onboard controls and a 4-inch full colour LCD display, and any combination of sounds and effects can be saved to one of 7 user preset slots for instant recall. The auto-accompaniment feature offers 100 styles that follow your played chords to build a backing track, or you can switch off Auto-Chord and use the drum section on its own.
USB (a Type B port) sends and receives MIDI for recording and playback with a computer, and both MIDI and audio can be sent wirelessly over Bluetooth. This works with the free Piano Mate app for self-tuition and exercises, and other third-party apps can use the connection too, with 5 onboard recording slots for practice. Alongside the aux input there is an independent microphone input on an XLR/6.3mm combo connector, with its own gain, volume and digital reverb. The mic is mixed with the keyboard sounds and accompaniment, then sent to the main left and right 6.3mm jack (US: 1/4-inch) outputs, so the whole arrangement stays self-contained.
