Description

The NU-X NOD-2 Tube Man MKII is an overdrive pedal built to get you closer to the sound of a real tube amp cranked for gain. If you're not playing through a valve amp pushed hard, that genuine break-up can be tough to find, and more gain was the main goal here. Rotary drive, level and tone controls let you set the pedal to suit your rig, from a light push into the front of your amp through to a thicker, harder-driven tone.

Where the original Tube Screamer pedals used an op-amp circuit and relied on diode clipping to shape the signal into overdrive and distortion, the Tube Man MKII takes a different route. It uses a FET transistor system, which already has overdrive and distortion behaviour of its own. That approach brings out the harmonic content and breaks the distortion into a finer grit, closer to the way a valve does. Leads sing longer and richer, rhythm playing stays open and expressive, and the overall response is dynamic with clear note definition that helps you cut through a dense mix while keeping a fat mid-range.

The pedal switches between true bypass and buffer bypass, so you can choose what works best for your signal chain and cable runs. The knobs have a luminous glow for dark-stage use, and the chassis is a strong, lightweight aluminium die-cast build. It runs on a 9V centre-negative DC power supply with a 75mA current draw, which is not supplied. Our compatible power supply is item 173.290UK if you need one.

Does the NOD-2 come with a power supply?

No, the power supply is not included. You'll need a 9V centre-negative DC supply capable of at least 75mA. Our compatible option is item 173.290UK.

What controls does the pedal have?

It has rotary drive, level and tone controls, so you can set the amount of gain, output level and top-end to suit your amp and playing style.

What is the difference between true bypass and buffer bypass?

True bypass takes the pedal fully out of the signal path when off, while buffer bypass keeps a buffer active to help preserve your tone over longer cable runs. The NOD-2 lets you switch between both.

How is it different from a standard Tube Screamer?

Rather than an op-amp circuit relying on diode clipping, the Tube Man MKII uses a FET transistor system. This brings out more harmonic content and a finer grit closer to a real valve amp, with more gain on tap.

Are the knobs easy to see on a dark stage?

Yes. The knobs have a luminous glow so you can see your settings in dark-stage environments.

What is the chassis made from?

The pedal uses a strong, lightweight aluminium die-cast chassis for good durability on the road.
