Description

The NU-X NME-5 Trident is the flagship amp modeller and multi-effects pedal from NU-X, housed in a one-piece die-cast aluminium shell built to handle life on stage and the road. At its heart is the TSAC-4K physical modelling algorithm, with separate DSP engines for effects and amp simulation, plus premium AD/DA conversion for accurate sound with low noise. Sampling runs at 48kHz, 32-bit with 1ms latency and a 109dB dynamic range.

You get 27 amplifier models that emulate their real world counterparts, each with authentic features like high and low inputs, cable jumping and toggle switch settings. Add 27 cabinet simulations, 4 microphone models and 32 extra IR slots for your own custom cabs, and there is a wide range of backline to work with. A full set of effects covers boosters, filters, modulations, delay and reverb, with the amp and effects block order selectable and a 30 second phrase looper offering pre and post routing. Adjustments and foot switching are handled from the top panel, with current status shown on a bright, backlit LCD.

The send/return loop runs in serial or parallel mode, works with the 4-cable method for connecting to an amp, or acts as a send-only output in branch mode. Full MIDI in and out is included, with 5-pin DIN adaptor leads supplied, and a USB Type-C port handles PC and Mac editing, audio interface duties and firmware updates. Rear connections include an expression pedal input, 3.5mm aux input (called auxiliary in the US), a 6.3mm headphone output, 2 x XLR outputs and 2 x 6.3mm outputs. The Trident Edit software is free to download from the NU-X site. It measures 312 x 164 x 65mm and weighs 1.65kg.

Frequently Asked

What modelling technology does the Trident use?

It runs the proprietary TSAC-4K physical modelling algorithm, with separate dedicated DSP engines for effects and amp simulation. Sampling is 48kHz, 32-bit with 1ms latency.

How many amps and cabs are included?

There are 27 amplifier models, 27 cabinet simulations and 4 microphone models. You also get 32 additional IR slots for loading your own custom cab simulations.

Can I use it as an audio interface?

Yes. The USB Type-C port works as a recording interface for PC or Mac, and can also be used for editing with the free Trident Edit software and for firmware updates.

Does it support the 4-cable method?

Yes. The send/return loop runs in serial or parallel mode, supports the 4-cable method for connecting to an amp, or works as a send-only output in branch mode.

What outputs does it have?

The rear panel carries 2 x XLR outputs and 2 x 6.3mm outputs, plus a send jack and a 6.3mm stereo headphone output. Inputs include guitar, return, 3.5mm aux and an expression pedal socket.

Is MIDI supported?
