Description

Shopping for a British distortion pedal? The NU-X NDS-2 Brownie packs the classic British rock tones of the 1970s into one small box. It uses a hybrid of circuits to reproduce warm, organic pre-amp and power tube distortion characteristics. The specially designed BJT input stage causes the signal to break up when the preamp tube starts to distort, giving you that familiar valve-driven feel.

The Brownie has an asymmetrical clipping circuit that simulates some of the behaviour of a real tube amplifier, and it keeps the bottom-end tight by processing bass frequencies that can get muddy when distorted. A low-pass tone control filter recreates the Variac effect, lowering the effective voltage going into the amp to round off your tone. The tone control is focused but gives you plenty of room to dial in the high-end response. The power clipping circuit uses a modern low-noise op-amp and two red LEDs to create symmetrical clipping that distorts both halves of the signal for a smooth sound.

Controls are simple rotary gain, level and tone knobs, with luminous glow-knobs so you can read your settings on a dark stage. The true bypass circuit uses a high quality TPDP mechanical footswitch (foot-switch) for clear signal when the pedal is off. The chassis is a strong, lightweight aluminium die-cast build. The Brownie needs a 9V centre negative DC power supply with 75mA current draw, which is not supplied. The compatible power supply is part 173.290UK.
