Description

The NU-X NDO-6 Queen of Tone brings two overdrive circuits together in one unit, combining the Morning Star and Horseman voicings so you can run either drive on its own or stack them for something bigger. Morning Star is a progression from the original blues breaker pedal, with an open soft clipping architecture that keeps things responsive. The Horseman draws from the well known centaur style transparent overdrive, adding grit without swamping your original tone. Between the two, you have plenty of ground to cover, from mild edge-of-breakup to heavier saturation.

Each overdrive has its own three rotary controls and its own on/off footswitch. The Horseman side gives you Level, Treble and Gain, while the Morning Star side offers Level, Tone and Drive. Hold either footswitch down for one second and it brings in a secondary function, and the stacking order between the two circuits is switchable so you get two different flavours of combined drive. Each effect can also be switched remotely, which is handy for more complex rigs. A switchable FET input stage helps push the front end of your amplifier harder when you want a bolder signal.

When the overdrive circuits are off, you can choose between buffered and true bypass output to suit the rest of your signal chain. The pedal runs on a 9Vdc, 100mA (minimum) pin-negative supply, which is not included, so you will need your own adapter or pedalboard power. It measures 115 x 105 x 58mm and weighs 440g, keeping a reasonable footprint for two full drive circuits. With independent control over both sides and two stacking options, the Queen of Tone gives you room to shape your own overdrive sound.

Frequently Asked

What two circuits does the Queen of Tone combine?

It pairs the Morning Star, a blues breaker style soft clipping overdrive, with the Horseman, a centaur style transparent overdrive. You can use either alone or stack both together.

Can I change the order the two drives stack in?

Yes. The stacking order is switchable, giving you two different combined overdrive flavours depending on which circuit hits first.

What controls does each side have?

The Horseman side has Level, Treble and Gain. The Morning Star side has Level, Tone and Drive. Each also has its own on/off footswitch with a secondary function when held for one second.

Does it support true bypass?

Yes. You can switch between buffered and true bypass output for when the overdrive circuits are not engaged.

What power supply do I need?

It needs a 9Vdc, 100mA (minimum) pin-negative supply, which is not included. Use a standard pedal adapter or a pedalboard power output.

What is the FET input stage for?

The switchable FET input stage generates a more powerful signal to drive the front end of your amplifier harder when you want it.
