Description

The NU-X NDO-5 Ace of Tone brings together two overdrive circuits in one unit, each with its own controls and foot switch. The Tubeman side is based on a classic overdrive with a mid-focussed tone, while the Morning Star side gives a more transparent, natural-sounding overdrive. You can run either drive on its own, or combine them using two stacking options: Tubeman into Morning Star, or Morning Star into Tubeman. That gives you plenty of room to work out your own grit and lead tones.

Each side has its own Drive, Level and Tone controls, so you can dial in each overdrive independently before deciding how they interact. Holding down a foot switch brings in an extra feature. Fat mode on the Tubeman adds more bass, and Shine mode on the Morning Star adds more treble. On the rear panel there's a switch to select buffered or true bypass, plus another that enables a voltage multiplier to run the internal circuit at 18V for greater dynamic range and headroom.

The NDO-5 runs on a 9Vdc, 100mA (minimum) pin-negative supply, which isn't included, so you'll need a suitable pedal power supply or daisy chain output. It measures 115 x 105 x 58mm and weighs 440g, keeping it manageable on a pedalboard while still holding two separate drives. Whether you want one overdrive at a time or a fuller stacked sound, this pedal covers both without needing a second unit on your board.

Frequently Asked

What is the difference between the two overdrive circuits?

The Tubeman is based on a classic overdrive with a mid-focussed tone, while the Morning Star offers a more transparent, natural-sounding overdrive. Each has independent controls and its own foot switch.

How do the stacking options work?

You can run either drive on its own, or stack them in two ways: Tubeman into Morning Star, or Morning Star into Tubeman. A switch selects the stacking mode so you can shape how the two circuits combine.

What does the 18V option do?

An internal switch enables a voltage multiplier that runs the circuit at 18V rather than 9V. This gives greater dynamic range and more headroom, even though the pedal is still powered from a standard 9V supply.

Does it have true bypass?

Yes. A rear panel switch lets you choose between buffered or true bypass, so you can set it up to suit your rig and signal chain.

Is a power supply included?

No. The pedal needs a 9Vdc, 100mA (minimum) pin-negative supply, which isn't supplied. You'll need a compatible pedal power supply or daisy chain output.

What are Fat and Shine modes?

Holding down a foot switch activates these. Fat mode on the Tubeman adds more bass, and Shine mode on the Morning Star adds more treble, giving you extra tonal options on each side.
