Description

The NU-X NCP-2 Sculpture is a mini compressor pedal built for players who want tighter dynamics without giving up their natural playing feel. Sustain and level controls set the amount of compression and the output volume, so you can even out your picking and hold notes for longer. It suits long sustain chords and clean lead tones equally well, and the small footprint means it fits neatly on a crowded board.

The blend control is the part that keeps things sounding musical. Rather than squashing everything, you can feed some of the unaffected dry signal back in, which brings back a bit of the natural attack that heavier compression tends to remove. On top of that, the pedal gives you two modes. Hold down the on/off footswitch and it swaps between a soft clip mode and a clean compression mode, so you can pick between a rounder, slightly driven response and a transparent squeeze.

Power comes from a 9V DC centre-negative supply (called a center-negative adaptor in the US), which is not included, with a current draw of around 75 to 100mA. Input impedance is 1M Ohm and output impedance is 20 Ohm, so it plays nicely in most signal chains. The housing measures 94 x 53 x 51mm and weighs 174g. Controls are kept simple with Sustain, Blend, Level and the combined on/off/mode footswitch, making it quick to dial in a usable sound and get on with playing.

Frequently Asked

Does the NCP-2 come with a power supply?

No. It needs a 9V DC centre-negative power supply, which is sold separately. The compatible NU-X supply reference is 173.290UK.

How much current does it draw?

The bullets list a 75mA minimum requirement, while the full specs quote 100mA current consumption. Any 9V centre-negative supply rated at 100mA or more will run it comfortably.

What is the blend control for?

Blend lets you mix your dry, unaffected signal back in alongside the compressed signal. This keeps more of your natural pick attack for a less squashed, more open sound.

What is the difference between the two modes?

Hold the footswitch to switch between soft clip mode, which gives a rounder, slightly driven response, and clean compression mode for a more transparent, uncoloured squeeze.

What are the controls on this pedal?

There are three knobs, Sustain, Blend and Level, plus the combined on/off/mode footswitch that also toggles between the two compression modes.

What size is the pedal?

It is a mini pedal measuring 94 x 53 x 51mm and weighing 174g, so it takes up little space on a pedalboard.
