Description

The NU-X Amp Academy Stomp builds on the original Amp Academy as part of the Monarch series. This three-switch unit uses separate DSP processors for amp modelling and additional effects such as delay and reverb. The proprietary TSAC-4K amp modelling process is now twice as complex compared with previous algorithms, and splits into separate preamp and power amp sections. A dual Cyber IR loader handles speaker emulation at 1024 sample resolution, with individual left and right speakers, plus 60 factory Cyber IRs and 40 user loadable slots.

There are 27 factory and 27 user presets, each with three scenes, shown on a 2.86" colour LCD. Nine effect blocks cover noise gate, compressor, EFX, amp, EQ, send/return, IR, delay and reverb (vibe). The order of the first five blocks can be moved for custom signal chains, and the send/return loop can run as a branch (parallel) or serial connection. Outputs sit on a 6.3mm jack for a guitar amplifier and L+R balanced jacks for an FRFR speaker or mixing console. Reverb and delay can run in parallel when needed. Editing runs from two data dials, four rotary controls and the display, or via the free PC and Mac software over USB-C.

The USB-C port also works as a 24-bit/48kHz USB audio interface for direct recording into a DAW, and supports the supplied NBT-1 Bluetooth adaptor for wireless streaming of backing tracks through the outputs. The three footswitches run in preset, scene or individual stomp modes, and you can add a dual footswitch or expression pedal for more control. MIDI in and out is handled on minijack connections at the rear. A 30 second looper can be set pre- or post-processing for flexible phrase playback, giving you a compact modeller with plenty of extra features.
