Description
The Norfolk is a traditional outdoor down wall light with a black powder-coated metal lantern frame and hand-leaded glass panels made from five individual pieces of clear glass. The down-facing lantern houses a single E27 bulb (sold separately) and carries an IP44 rating, making it suitable for covered porches, patios, and external walls sheltered from direct rain exposure.
Designed for residential front doors, garage entrances, and garden walls, the Norfolk provides downward illumination for pathways, steps, and seating areas. The 255mm projection from the wall and 450mm overall height suit standard brick or rendered walls, with the scrolled bracket adding a decorative accent above the lantern. The fixture fixes to a standard outdoor back plate and connects to mains wiring behind the wall.
The hand-leaded glass construction uses traditional techniques where each glass panel is edged in lead came and soldered at the corners, creating visible metalwork between the glass sections that diffuses the light and adds texture when the fitting is illuminated. The black powder-coated finish resists corrosion in coastal and damp environments, and the metal components are designed to withstand freeze-thaw cycles without cracking.
From Elstead Lighting, the Norfolk is backed by a 5-year warranty covering manufacturing defects and finish deterioration. The E27 socket accepts any standard LED, CFL or halogen bulb up to 60W, allowing flexibility to choose warm-white (2700K) for a traditional glow or cooler temperatures for security lighting.

Frequently Asked
What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?
IP44 means the fitting is protected against solid objects over 1mm and splashing water from any direction. It's suitable for covered outdoor locations like porches and eaves where the fitting is sheltered from direct rain, but not for fully exposed positions where heavy rain hits the fitting directly.
What bulb should I use?
The Norfolk takes any E27 bulb up to 60W. Most users fit a 6-10W warm-white LED at 2700K for a soft traditional glow, or a 10-15W daylight LED at 4000K-5000K for clearer visibility as security lighting. Bulbs are sold separately.
How is the glass cleaned?
The hand-leaded glass can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth and soapy water. The lead came between the glass panels may tarnish over time to a darker patina, which is a natural characteristic of traditional leaded glasswork and doesn't affect the light output.
Can it be mounted upside-down as an up-lighter?
No. The Norfolk is designed as a down-facing lantern with the scrolled bracket positioned above the lantern body. Mounting it inverted would direct water into the bulb chamber and compromise the IP44 rating.
